The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority is a catalyst for the revitalization of the city, partnering in affordable and equitable strategic developments that celebrate the city’s neighborhoods and honor its traditions.

The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) was founded in 1968 as the Community Improvement Agency to revitalize New Orleans’ corridors and to eliminate physical blight. Their first project was completed in 1972 in the Lower Ninth Ward. This project repaired the neighborhood’s streets and sewage system and planted trees. In 2006, the Community Improvement Agency was reincarnated as the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority with a focus on recovery after 2005s Hurricane Katrina. Today NORA participates in redevelopment projects throughout the city of New Orleans. Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard has benefitted from NORA’s Façade Renew program and commercial lending support. NORA supported development of the Myrtle Banks Building, Café Reconcile, SoFAB and other projects. The core issues NORA addresses are affordable housing for local residents, commercial revitalization in corridors, selling public properties, and maintaining vacant property through land stewardship.
