Artifacts recovered from ‘midden’ deposits like those at the Salvaggio home and business can give a general sense of everyday activities in the household and provide a baseline for comparisons to others in the neighborhood. Everyday items like white ball clay smoking pipes (top row), buttons, and bone utensil handles (bottom row) are relatively common in urban archaeological deposits of the early-twentieth century, whether residential or commercial. Toys, like a bisque doll arm (upper middle row, left) and marbles (upper middle row, center and right), indicate the activities of children in the household.
