In 1963, when plans were made by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart to found a school for girls, the Pitot House was threatened with demolition. Following months of negotiations between the Louisiana Landmarks Society representatives, city officials, and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, a solution was obtained in which the Pitot House was moved to a site on the nearby Desmare Playground.
