Spring House

This wall was part of a spring or cooling house that would have been near the kitchen building of a Tremé home. Spring houses preserved and cooled perishable food, and they became obsolete as ice boxes were used in the later 1800s. Refuse found in the spring house such as bricks and roofing slate suggest that it was filled in 1900 after it became obsolete.
