Perseverance Lodge, the oldest Masonic temple in Louisiana, still stands today in Louis Armstrong Park. The Greek Revival structure was completed in 1820, but the lodge itself was established in Haiti in 1806 under a charter from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. Lodge members fled to New Orleans during the Haitian Revolution and reestablished in 1808.
In the 1970s, Perseverance Lodge was saved from demolition during the creation of Armstrong Park, and is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
