Neighboring property was the Federal Courthouse. General Andrew Jackson was fined $1,000 for contempt of court and obstruction of justice in this building in March 1815, two months after winning the Battle of New Orleans. The charges stemmed from the lengthy period of martial law General Jackson had enforced. The building was demolished by the early 1900s.
