This photograph depicts the hospital as seen from the lake. The smokestack in the distance on the left, was part of the brick utility house that powered the hospital. The same energy source powered the Naval base several miles down the lakefront. The base eventually became Louisiana State University in New Orleans' campus, now the University of New Orleans, and the smokestack remains a prominent part of the campus.
