Persac's Map of the Mississippi, 1858.

This detail of Persac's map of the Mississippi shows the 400 acre estate "Woodlawn" and lists R. C. Camp as the landowner.

Though Robert Camp officially named his plantation "Woodlawn" and it is listed as such on some maps, the property was always referred to as "Indian Camp" by locals because historically it had been the hunting grounds of the Houmas Indians. The name Indian Camp also was an interesting word-play on the owner's name.
